Freezer Cooking

Well, the last 3 days have been a little crazy. (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) I decided to take on a full one-day project, and divide it into 3 part-day projects. I made almost a months' worth of freezer meals. It ended up being really fun, cause Akaila helped and we had a blast being homemaking girls. Parker was really helpful too, being good and laughing at us as we made messes in the kitchen.
We now have the following meals in our freezer:
-2 Mexican chicken & rice casseroles
-5 lbs cooked, shredded chicken for burritos, soup, pasta, etc
-2 lbs cooked taco meat
-5 baked potato soup dinners
-4 dozen chicken nuggets
-10 homemade hot pockets
-12 pork tamales (okay, I didn't make these...the neighbors came by selling them, and we froze them)
-8 breakfast biscuits
-7 rolls of chocolate chip cookie dough (each roll will make about a dozen cookies)
-6 Italian Parmesan chicken breasts
-2 dozen homemade tortillas

The cookie dough was the funnest to make....and eat.

As a reward, on Saturday, we took a trip to the thrift store and bought Akaila a ton of new school clothes. It was so fun! We picked up a toy for Parker as well. I don't know what happened, but we were being so girly. We stopped at McDonald's for lunch and Akaila said "You have beautiful eyes" to the 17 year old guy there. I started giggling and he rolled his eyes at us. It was a total blast. I feel like I'm hangin with my school friend! I wish I could go to school with her now.

Hobbies

Parker just turned 7 months old. Besides eating and being held, his hobby is bouncing on his bouncer. At times it gives me and Eve a good half hour of free time. Akaila has many hobbies. Her recent one has been to pretend like she is in school. She is craving school. In a month she will be starting preschool. She pretends like Me or Eve is the school teacher and she in class with a bunch of students. This picture of her is me being the teacher and her working on her school workbook. I try to do things I think a real kindergarten teacher would teach her, but I can't seem to remember what they do in kimdergarten.

Pioneer Day Fun

Our ward had a primary activity this last Saturday. This is the first one we've done since I was called into the presidency, so it was a busy, fun time.

Each year we have an annual Pioneer Day Parade. We begin the activity with a flag raising, and then serve breakfast. ALL members of the neighborhood, members or not, adult, children, etc are invited.

After breakfast we have a parade through the neighborhood. The children decorate bikes, wagons, scooters and more and take them around. We've got a guy in our bishopric who is a UHP trooper, so he leads the pack with sirens and lights.

Well, this year we got a special treat. Some of our local firefighters came in their truck to visit the kids and tell them about themselves and their jobs. The kids were able to tour the truck and ask questions.

Akaila asked a few questions, one of them being, "can I get a picture with you?" They happily obliged. It was a lot of fun.

South Paw

Parker uses his left hand for most things. I have never really cared if my child was left or right handed until I noticed Parker was left handed. I then began to think about the difficulties of it, like using scissors, right handed desks, writing letters, computer mouse etc. I then thought how I was going to incorporate a right handed program, like eating his cereal with his right hand, and teaching him to write with his right hand. After that concern left I thought, heck, who cares, he's in T-ville, he will love his left hand when it is time to play baseball.

Grass

So I was at Home Depot the other day and they had sod sitting out. I thought it would be nice to buy a ton, but I didn't know the cost, so I just bought one roll. When Akaila saw it, she was so happy! She jumped on it, touched it, felt it, and gave it a thorough inspection. Then she looked up at me and said, "is this a toy? It's not real grass." Alas, she's right...it's nothing like the other real grass in our yard. Much too green to fit in. Kinda embarrasing.
